Our Story
A Lifetime of Little Moments
My name is Eleanor, and my love for jewelry has always been about the feeling behind a piece.
A ring can remind you of someone you love. A necklace can become the finishing touch that makes you feel like yourself again. And sometimes, a small gift can say something we struggle to put into words.
That is what drew me to making jewelry — the thought that something created with care could become meaningful to someone else.
In 1979, I started Eleanor Jewels with that hope.
Made With Care, Chosen With Love
Working with my hands gave me a way to turn that love into something I could share. I enjoyed the patience involved: paying attention to the details, considering how a piece would feel when worn, and knowing when it was ready.
But making the jewelry was only part of what made the work special.
Helping someone choose a piece brought a different kind of happiness. Sometimes they were looking for a gift. Sometimes they wanted to celebrate something. And sometimes, they simply wanted something beautiful for themselves.
I always felt that last reason was enough.
We spend so much of our lives caring for other people. There is something lovely about taking a moment to choose something just because it makes you smile.
My hope has always been that my jewelry could offer a little of that feeling — a little confidence, a little joy, or a reminder of someone dear.
When Life Became Quieter
The shop gave my days a familiar rhythm. There was work to do, something to focus on, and a reason to keep busy.
But being busy and feeling connected are not always the same thing.
There came a time when I began to feel lonely. I missed companionship: having someone nearby, sharing the small moments, and feeling that a quiet day could still hold something to look forward to.
Then Teds came into my life.
A Little Dog Who Made a Big Difference
Teds is my little apricot-colored poodle, and his companionship has meant more to me than I can easily explain.
Looking after him gave my days a new rhythm. There was a reason to step outside, take a walk, and pay attention to the world beyond my work.
He helped soften the loneliness. His company made the quiet feel more comfortable, and the simplest parts of the day became things to enjoy again.
Through him, I began to realize how much I wanted to make time for those moments.
Making Time for Life
As I’ve grown older, I’ve found myself thinking more about how I want to spend the years ahead.
I still love jewelry, and stepping away from something I’ve put so much of myself into is an emotional decision. But there are other things I want to make more room for now: time with people I love, places I’ve always wanted to see, and quiet mornings with no need to rush.
I want to enjoy these years while I can. To have the freedom to make plans, follow a little curiosity, or simply spend an afternoon doing something that makes me happy.
And, of course, Teds will be right beside me.
He came into my life when I was feeling lonely, and his companionship has brought me so much comfort. He means the world to me. Caring for him has reminded me how much happiness there can be in the simplest parts of a day.
Closing the shop is my own decision — one I’ve reached gradually, with both sadness and excitement. I’m grateful for what this chapter has given me, and I feel ready to give myself more time to enjoy the next one.
With love,
Eleanor & Teds 🐾
